RECURRING

At Grasslands, we’re not just dedicated to doing well and to seeing that our clients do well. We’re also committed to doing good. One way we do this is through recurring charitable contributions to each Grasslands team member’s organization of choice.

Here are some of the nonprofit organizations nearest and dearest to our hearts—and we’ve included links to each of their websites, in case you see one you would like to support.

THE BREATHE NETWORK

I selected The Breathe Network, a nonprofit organization that connects survivors of sexual violence with sliding-scale, trauma-informed therapeutic service providers across the United States and Canada. I chose TBN because my sister founded it, so I see the amazing work they do up close! The Breathe Network also offers cutting-edge education and training opportunities for healers of all kinds, and advocates tirelessly to end sexual violence. The TBN team gets up every day and works to make this world a better place.

ALZHEIMER’S ASSOCIATION

There’s nothing worse than watching someone you love slowly slip away before your eyes. That’s why I chose the Alzheimer’s Association. My family and our lifelong family of friends have watched my mother go from forgetting where she parked the car to forgetting the names of everyone she loves, to needing 24-hour care over the last 10 years. I am extremely committed to raising awareness and for this gut-wrenching disease. The Alzheimer’s Association helps raise money for innovative research and support for caregivers and so much more!

NATIONAL PARKS CONSERVATION ASSOCIATION

Living in Colorado has provided me with ample opportunity to visit and explore some of our nation’s most wondrous and diverse scenery. Our National Parks reflect America at its best, but these historic landscapes are under serious threat from private industries eager to log, drill and mine the land. Since 1919, the National Parks Conservation Association has been the leading voice of the American people in the fight to safeguard the scenic beauty, wildlife and historic and cultural treasures of the largest and most diverse park system in the world. By supporting their efforts, we can help to ensure future generations have equal and abundant opportunity to experience and enjoy America’s most magnificent and meaningful places.

PROTECT OUR WINTERS

Protect Our Winters (POW) is the leading climate-advocacy group for the winter sports community. As an outdoor enthusiast of snow (and dirt) adventures, I couldn’t be more passionate about protecting our environment and preserving our winters for future generations.

THE PEARL SAFE HAVEN

The Pearl Safe Haven is an emergency shelter and one of the first functioning safe houses providing transitional and temporary housing for abused women in Ghana. Their mission is to create a refuge for women and children who have been abused, to feel safe to rebuild meaningful lives for themselves. It works in partnership with the Ghanaian Police Force, the Domestic Violence Support Unit and the Department of Social Welfare to help rescue and integrate victims into society.

THE MARSHALL PROJECT

America’s criminal justice system is broken. And The Marshall Project—whose mission it is “to create and sustain a sense of national urgency about the U.S. criminal justice system”—is the nonprofit, nonpartisan news organization telling so many of these necessary stories. From a 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Explanatory Reporting to a 2018 Edward R. Murrow Award for Overall Excellence, this bold organization (named after civil rights activist / NAACP attorney / first African-American U.S. Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall) is creating the kind of journalism that begins to repair our broken criminal justice system, which in turn repairs decades of unjust drug policy and so much more.

OCEAN CONSERVANCY

I chose Ocean Conservancy, a nonprofit environmental advocacy group. The organization helps facilitate ocean policy in the government at both federal and state government levels based on peer-reviewed science, and it is one of the few organizations that help protect wildlife in the ocean. I am passionate about animals and the environment and I believe protecting our ocean is an important step in preserving our Earth.

CHARITY NAVIGATOR

When there’s a disaster or personal crisis and the call for help goes wide, it’s tempting to make a quick donation so you can feel good that you’ve done your part. But where are your dollars really going? This cynic supports the work of watchdogs such as Charity Navigator, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that objectively rates charities for operational transparency and effective use of donations. I appreciate the investigative work done by Charity Navigator to help donors make informed choices.

PROPUBLICA

High-quality investigative journalism is vital to our democracy. And in an age where fake news floods our digital platforms, and the business model that once supported comprehensive and in-depth reporting crumbles, donor-funded organizations like ProPublica are more important than ever. The nonprofit investigative news organization produces hard-hitting journalism in the public interest, and has been holding powerful feet to the fire for over 10 years. Here’s to the next 10 years of “using the moral force of investigative journalism to spur reform through the sustained spotlighting of wrongdoing.”
